Azinger: Hoffman a lock for Ryder Cup
Paul Azinger was always adamant that winning breeds confidence.
Azinger, the 2008 U.S. Ryder Cup captain, believed that winning an
event in the weeks before Ryder Cup selections put a player in
great position to make the team as a captainâs
pick. Unfortunately for Azinger, the last six winners on the PGA
Tour before he had to make his picks in 2008 were non-Americans.
But that was then. âCharley Hoffman is a
lock,â Azinger said from his home in Florida after
the final putt dropped at the Deutsche Bank Championship.
âThe purpose of getting four picks at the end was
because I valued confidence over experience, and Hoffman won by
five after shooting a 62.â
